February is Black History Month. There are a variety of different events and festivities happening in the city to honour the legacy of the Black community. Here are some of the best Black History Month events taking place in Toronto this month!

1. Harbourfront Centre Presents KUUMBA
This event is Toronto’s largest Black Futures Month celebration and helps to support Black artists and culture. Through music, film, spoken word, dance and visual arts, KUUMBA celebrates the potential of the future in Black arts, cultures and societies.

2. Black History Month: BLACK GRAPES
Celebrate black winemakers and their wines at the Black History Month: BLACK GRAPES event! This 1-day event will feature wines from all over the world, including Canada, the United States, South Africa and more. Plus, wine and food samples are covered with the ticket to the event.

3. The RBC Black Diamond Ball
The Black Diamond Ball is a signature event in Toronto and is Canada’s most anticipated Black History Month celebration! This year’s theme honours outstanding Black community and allies contributors. This event helps bring together the Black community and celebrates their accomplishments and achievements.

4. Toronto Black Film Festival
The 12th annual Toronto Black Film Festival is returning on February 14th. This event is Canada’s largest film celebration of Black History Month, which features films, panel discussions, special events and more.

5. The Space Race
Watch the documentary, The Space Race at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema. This document highlights the experiences of the first Black astronauts seeking to break the bonds of social injustice to reach for the stars.

6. Black History Month Poetry Slam
Check out this Black History Month Poetry Slam taking place at Neilson Park Creative Centre. This is a space for Black artists to share their truths and celebrate the art of spoken word. There will 8 poets performing with Shahaddah Jack as the featured poet.

7. The Trending Table Market
The Trending Table Market will be hosting a pop-up to promote and support local Black-owned businesses. Taking place at stackt market, the event will be a weekend filled with shopping, supporting, and networking with black-owned small businesses from our city. Plus, the first 30 guests will be receiving a swag bag filled with goodies!

8. Black Defenders of Upper Canada Tour

Toronto History Museums celebrates Black History Month at Fort York with the Black Defenders of Upper Canada Tour.
