You’d think a place called Sandwich Town would have plenty of places to grab a sandwich, right? Well, despite its name, this historic Windsor neighbourhood didn't have a single sandwich shop. And with today, November 3rd being National Sandwich Day, Subway Canada turned that irony into action with a playful proposal to help Sandwich Town live up to its name.
A very fair question got things started
It all started with a viral video supported by Subway where a passionate local resident brought up the ironic question at a town hall-style meeting: “How can a place called Sandwich Town not have a sandwich shop?” Packed with dramatic calls for justice and concerns for future generations of sandwich lovers, the speech quickly struck a chord online. Fortunately for Sandwich Town residents, the solution was closer than anyone expected. In fact, there is already a Subway restaurant sitting less than 50 feet outside Sandwich Town. That’s right, just a few steps are keeping the neighbourhood from having a sandwich shop to call its own. So, Subway came up with a solution: Why not move the boundaries instead?
If there’s a sub, there’s a way
Subway Canada released an official response video, vowing to work alongside the Sandwich Town Business Improvement Area (BIA) to address this sandwich shortage. As of today, they have officially requested to expand the neighbourhood’s boundary lines, to welcome the nearby Subway restaurant into Sandwich Town. While the boundary expansion hasn't been approved just yet, the proposal gives residents of Sandwich Town something to get excited about!
And really, who wouldn't want to see a place called Sandwich Town finally get a sandwich shop of its own? Whether you're from Windsor or just love a quirky Canadian story, this is one worth following! Celebrate National Sandwich Day today by grabbing your favourite Subway sandwich and giving Sandwich Town a little extra love as it gets closer to living up to its name.
