The Toronto International Film Festival may have come and gone, but that doesn’t mean that international cinema doesn’t have some exceptional works that deserve to be featured. That’s what these film festivals aim to do, and here are the best around Toronto to check out this month!

Reelworld Film Festival

Reelworld Film Festival showcases a wide variety of genres in narrative and documentary features and shorts! They are one of the largest national platforms dedicated to changing the face of the cinema landscape by empowering and showcasing Canadians identifying as Black, Indigenous, Asian, and People of Colour!

Planet in Focus International Environmental Film Festival 

Planet in Focus is an environmental media arts organization that uses film as a catalyst for public awareness, discussion and engagement on a broad range of environmental issues; their goal is to enlighten, engage and entertain audiences of all backgrounds, and they do so through their International Environmental Film Festival! 

Where: stackt market, Paradise Theatre, and the Centre for Social Innovation.

Toronto Food Film Fest 

Watch, learn, and eat at the Toronto Food Film Festival! This festival celebrates the storytelling of food and the interconnectivity with artistry in film; this is the best place to discover mouth-watering and conversation-starting independent films!

A cinema festival promoting Indigenous-made media, imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival returns to Toronto! The festival aims to develop platforms for artists to assert their voices, express their perspectives, and share their cultures!

Toronto After Dark Film Festival

The 16th annual Toronto After Dark Film Festival will be taking place at the Scotiabank Theatre; the event will showcase the best new Horror, Sci-Fi and Action Cinema from around the world! This film festival isn’t for the faint of heart!

A Haitian Creole word meaning “films by women”, CineFAM returns for the sixth iteration of their festival! Their two days of activity include a single day film festival and a short film challenge for emerging filmmakers, all designed to support bold, original film stories by Women and non-binary creators of colour around the globe!
