A product of the Prohibition era, Speakeasies were bars that people would flock to when the sale, manufacturing, and transportation of alcohol was illegal throughout North America during a period in the twentieth century. Despite alcohol being decriminalized and a bar seemingly on every corner now, there are some establishments that preserve the culture and the ambience of these forgotten taverns; here are our picks for the best speakeasies and hidden bars in Toronto! (keep it on the down-low, though, and don’t tell them we sent you)
Tucked away behind Kome Yogurt, AfterSeven is one of Toronto’s newest speakeasies! An eccentric Japanese cocktail experience, AfterSeven uncovers new flavours through modern interpretations of classic cocktails. You want to get in? Order #8 on the menu at Kome Yogurt and you’ll find your way inside!

Located inside Coffee Oysters Champagne (wonder what’s on their menu?), À Toi (French for "to you") is a small boutique hotel built in the 1920s by French Millionaire Antoine Mercier. Today, it serves as COC’s best kept secret, but one that you can learn about by asking for the champagne tour!
Where: 214 King St W, Toronto, ON M5H 3S6
The Cloak Bar
We’ve discussed Marben and their farm fresh items recently, but did you know there’s a secret bar inside there? You’ll find The Cloak Room; where the vibes are on point and not much is known about their menu, so it looks like you’ll have to go and find out yourself!
Where: 488 Wellington St W, Toronto, ON, M5V 1E9.
You’ll find this little cocktail bar above Little Italy’s DaiLo; LoPan Bar is one of our favourite spots for #sickasiansnacks including the Big Mac Bao! They’ve got a cocktail menu crafted by Chris Flink of Flink’s Drinks, and have a bright array of neon lights for those unforgettable nights!
Where: 503 College St, Toronto, ON, M6J 2J3.
Hole in the Wall
Pretty on the nose with the name; the Hole in the Wall is one of Toronto’s worst kept secrets, but it’s still a nice little spot in The Junction. They’ve got a huge list of craft beers, and a massive food menu including wood-fired sourdough pizzas!
Where: 2867A Dundas St W, Toronto, ON, M6P 1Y9.
Formerly hidden behind a convenience store, hush hush has finally reopened in a new location! You’ll find them beneath The Nest on College, where they’ve got food options provided by Classico Macaha to go along with their Casa Cocktails and a huge selection of Beveraginos!
Where: 423 College St, Toronto, ON, M5T 1T1.
Hidden behind an inconspicuous pink bodega, you’ll find Mahjong Bar, a space full of glowing light, thoughtful design details, and delicious food and drinks inspired by Asian culture. Blink and you’ll miss it, so keep an eye out for the bright pink storefront!
Where: 1276 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON, M6J 1X7.
Located above the famous Bovine Sex Club, TIKI BAR is known for their heated rooftop patio, an eclectic global menu with snacks and good eats, live entertainment (they are above one of the city’s more famous punk clubs, after all), and cocktail list serving up tropical vibes every night! They don’t take reservations, so get there early!
Where: 542 Queen St W, Toronto, ON, M5V 2B5.
