With Halloween a little over a week away, you must have your plans set in stone by now: you’ve got your party picked out (if you don’t, check out our list of the best parties here!) and your costume picked out. Wait a minute, you don’t? Well, fortunately for you, we’ve compiled a list of the best costumes for you this year. We’ve got some last minute ideas, some Toronto-inspired costumes, and some of the more popular selections this year! Not only that, but we’ll tell you where to shop for some!
Last Minute:
Dwight Schrute
“Last week, I was in a drugstore, and I saw these glasses. Four dollars. And it only cost me seven dollars to recreate the rest of the ensemble, and that is a grand total of $11 dollars.” Identity theft may not be a joke (neither is inflation; we doubt any of the aforementioned items can be bought at those prices, but scroll down the list a bit!), but recreating this outfit is so easy, you’ll be laughing!
Taylor Swift
Sorry for the poor image quality; it's not the most recent of music videos! Seeing as Midnights released this past Friday, why not channel Taylor Swift in her iconic You Belong With Me outfit! Grab some nerdy glasses and create your own “Junior Jewels” shirt; grab a white t-shirt, write the names of all your friends, and voila! Bonus point if you get a friend to dress up as “Cheerleader Taylor”.
Velma Dinkley
Jinkies! With her new animated series premiering next year on HBO Max, Velma Dinkley could be one of the most popular costumes next year, but why not stay ahead of the trendGrab some dorky glasses (I can’t believe all three of these outfits required this), a bob wig, an orange sweater and socks, a red skirt and a red skirt and shoes! Mystery solved!
Most Popular:
Elvis Presley
After the success of this summer’s film, you’ll be seeing many people dressing up as Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll! With Austin Butler’s portrayal of the icon, many more eyes have been opened to his lavish outfits and iconic style! You’ll be saying thank you, thank you very much for the best costume award!
Queen Elizabeth
Unfortunately, Queen Elizabeth II passed away earlier this year, and we’ll likely see many people paying tribute to her this Halloween. If you choose to dress as her this Halloween, you better do it in style; the iconic Monarch had an impeccable style that made her a fashion legend!
Eddie Munson
While it was released nearly six months ago, Stranger Things Season 4 still ranks up there with some of the best television shows and movies released this year! With that being said, why not grab a denim jacket and your favourite band t-shirt and dress up as everybody’s favourite metalhead, overnight sensation Eddie Munson!
Toronto Inspired:
Rogers Employee
Remember last year when Rogers went down across Canada and millions of people had no internet, cellular data, or phone service for a day? Remember when it happened again this year? Grab a red shirt, some cables, and pretend you know what you’re doing for a Halloween costume!
A Bumblebee
The Transformer? No (although that is a good costume idea), the one that Doug Ford swallowed at a press conference earlier this year! While this one may be easy to find, why not go as a bumblebee and have your partner or friend go as Doug Ford in a navy suit? Easy!
Avril Lavigne
The Canadian Queen of Pop Punk has seen a surge in popularity this year with her comeback album, and why not pay tribute to her this Halloween? Avril Lavigne has a collection of iconic outfits to choose from, so the options are endless!
